Self-glow effect ECLOON SR
Backlighting or radiation from invisible UV-black light L36W/73 Radium activates only the coated surface and appears as a self-glowing body (Light intensity up to 80 cd/m²).
| Color: | Permanent activation – Phosphorus yellow green No activation – beige |
Lighting medium
Homogenous light intensities are achieved at a horizontal distance to the glass of approx. 50 cm.
The vertical light distance should also be 50 cm in order to visualise the extraordinarily high self-brightness, even for external applications in urban areas.
The activation of the performance coating is best done with UVA-Light in Spectral range from 350 - 390 nm. In this range practically no visible light is seen and is therefore described as UV-Black light.
UVA radiation values are below the current limits to avoid any health risks.
The measurement was carried out using UVA lamp tubes – which do not have any damaging UVB radiation.

A uniform and relative high light intensity (uniformity 1:1,5) is achieved using a symmetrical light band arrangement with L36W/73 Black light lamp tubes at a distance of ca. 50 cm from the glass and also 50 cm to the light. Light intensities of L 20 – 30 cd/m² on large surfaces are seen as being very bright at night time.
The maximum light intensities should therefore not be forced in night-time applications.
Exceptional characteristics of ECLOON SR laminated glass:
- in comparison to conventional lit surfaces „self-glowing“ partial areas can be achieved
- Effect: only the partial areas of the glass glow during activation – disturbances on the framing do not exist

Afterglow-Effect
Afterglow effects that are only activated by the UVA-part of daylight can be achieved using ECLOON NT.
In absolute darkness (Interior) daylight is usually sufficient for activation in order for it to remain visible to the human eye for up to 550 minutes through fading. This definition of the visibility limit to DIN 67510 (0,3 mcd) for afterglow materials is in real, urban conditions not achievable. Street lighting, bright signage etc. create light disturbance of the surroundings which, depending on the situation, may make the visibility limit much higher.
