ECKELT will determine the composition of the glass – glass thickness and cavity width of 32 mm – depending on the application, location of building above sea-level, climate loads and barometric pressure. In order to avoid the glass and louvres coming into contact, pressure equalisation is carried out in the factory. |

4. technical dataECKLITE EVOLUTION has been tested at the Technical University of Berlin, Light department for relevant technical performance values and determined in accordance with EN 410 and EN 13363-2. Technical data can be taken from the performance values from the right. Light intensity: bi-directional measured dataBased on the bi-directional measured data for upper area and vision area, it is possible to determine lighting situations or light intensity distribution for designated locations – from lighting designers based on given luminosity. Technical data can be found on the right. For the implementation of daylight calculation programs, existing data (in EUMELDAT-Format) can be downloaded [>]. |

5. Performance characteristics of the controlsDLS ECKLITE EVOLUTION possesses two additional ENCODERS (increment regulators), which take permanent distance measurements on two channels every 16 impulses per motor revolution and provides auto-adjustment via the DLS ECKLITE CONTROLLER. This allows optimum positioning – also in relation to adjacent louvres – even in units with different dimensions. Synchronisation of a number of adjacent louvre units is thereby assured. ECKLITE EVOLUTION has integrated stop mechanisms for upper and lower end positions. When the louvre reaches an end position the power is cut and the louvre is either closed or compacted. When lowering it is possible that some individual blades do not sit cleanly in the guide cord. This irregular appearance can normally be regulated with ECKLITE CONTROLLER by automatic louvre reversal when it reaches the lower end position. |

6. Motor control units, Power source and connection cableFor the operation of ECKLITE, motor control units and plugs for DC power as well as connection cables with push-connectors which are supplied by ECKELT as well as customer supplied operating elements (e.g. switches) are necessary. Our standard ECKLITE CONTROLLER is to be used as the motor control unit. ECKLITE CONTROLLER for controlling 2 blinds

Commissioning
ECKLITE EVOLUTION has a factory set-up for control using our ENCODER. Operation with ENCODER requires commissioning by a trained ECKELT operative or authorised agent who possesses the correct hard- and software.
Manual operation with Standard switch
| Up/down switch: | slow, complete pivot, duration approx. 4 sec. |
| Self-holding: | automatic after 4 sec. transfer into running speed up of down until arriving at end position. Closing and automatic cut-off position following downward movement. |
| Pause: | by switch (in opposite direction) in every position |
| Louvre blade position: | short switch fine adjustment possible |
Manual operation with additional Central switch - Standard
As manual operation with switch, but no self-holding, no automatic cut-off position.
Function of the ECKLITE CONTROLLER
- Direction-defined end position parametering
- Slow movement to end position parametering
- Definable louvre mid-positioning and angle controllable via RS 485
- Speeds and position are controlled through the CONTROLLER
- Memory functions in EEPROM
Design notes for controls
The motor control units offered by ECKELT can be determined for manual and/or group and central controls based on project specific requirements. Basic possibilities can be seen in the manual and switching schematics for ECKLITE CONTROLLER.
Power source
The in-situ (e.g. 230 V) power source must be stabilised and calibrated using suitable transformers to 24 V DC. The use of ECKELT recommended transformers is therefore necessary.
Connection cable
In order to guarantee function and operation it is necessary to use system-designed connection cables with plugs from ECKELT. These can be supplied in different lengths. For ECKLITE EVOLUTION 8-pole connection cables in 5, 10 or 20 m lengths are typically available with plugs units pre-mounted on one side.

7. General notes for lighting design
The new, exceptional performance characteristics of ECKLITE EVOLUTION, with respect to the ergonomic conditions of dynamic light and energy scenarios require specific planning in their evaluation.
8. Application technical notes
The angles of the louvre for upper area and vision area are to be controlled separately. The upper area can only be raised when the blind in the vision area has been completely lifted. We recommend keeping the light directing function of the upper area active and it should only be fully opened in exceptional circumstances.
Proportion definition upper area/vision area
It is only possible to determine the proportion of upper area to lower area prior to manufacture. It is not possible to change after the units have been made. The height of the upper area should be at least 2 m above floor level in order to avoid glare from the light directing.
Structural dimensioning
The customer is responsible to determine the glass thickness. It is necessary to take account of the restriction in maximum deflection of the individual sheets to the cavity being 6 mm.
Requirements of sub-frames
We advise that the design of sub-frames should take into account the deflection restrictions of the insulated unit relate to the edges of the glass. For mullions it is generally max. l/300, whereby deviations there to restrict the deflection in the transom to a max. of 5 mm.
Requirements of window frames

9. General notes for Electro-design
For complex set-ups and requirements we strongly recommend an early coordination in the design phase of the project.
We recommend the use of system suitable motor control units and transformers from ECKELT. Other products are not tested by us and the customer has sole responsibility for the function and possible damage to the ECKLITE elements. Incorrect installation may result in poor operation and a reduction in the lifespan or even to long-term and irreparable damage.
Electro-magnetic compatibility
In order to avoid performance disruptions, control cables should be protected against electro-magnetic currents and should not be laid parallel to high-voltage cables. The electrician should check to see whether installations require such protection.
ECKLITE CONTROLLER for EVOLUTION
Commissioning and necessary parametering of the functions of the programmable motor control must be carried out by a qualified ECKELT engineer who has access to specific soft- and hardware equipment.
We are able to accommodate special requests for individual, project-specific control equipment. Early involvement with the end-user and coordination with electrical consultants has proven successful for economical and efficient applications.
Particulars relating to use of foreign control units
Should an ECKLITE CONTROLLER not be used, the customer must check compatibility. We therefore recommend using our controls.
10. Warranty
10 years in accordance with our „Particular warranty conditions for DLS ECKLITE EVOLUTION“.
In the upper area the number of total cycles (up and down) is restricted to a maximum of 3,600 cycles (on a yearly average maximum 1 x daily).
Guidelines for the assessment of visual quality in DLS ECKLITE elements can be downloaded from Handbook Tolerances [PDF].
Other Tolerances
The definitions in the Handbook Tolerances apply. [PDF]
General Operation notes
Generally, the mode of operation – in particular the frequency and intervals of complete up and down movement (cycle) – will affect the life-cycle of the complex and electrical components of DLS ECKLITE EVOLUTION. We therefore recommend that the louvres are only set to be operated at the necessary number of cycles so as to ensure the desired room comfort. In particular with changeable weather conditions it is sensible to adapt the system for delayed impulse settings (system idling) which only changes the angle of the louvres.
In the upper area of ECKLITE EVOLUTION we recommend complete opening of the louvre blind to be restricted to an annual average on 1 x daily. It is normally possible to achieve free vision and good light conditions by just opening the lower louvre blind.
Operation notes
The complex technical solution has amongst other functions the duty to provide a simple and user friendly operation. Significant guidelines such as misuse etc. Can be found in the operation guidelines for ECKLITE standard control.
