Acoustic insulation glass for higher performance

CLIMAPLUS SILENCE is an insulated glass unit providing a high level of performance in acoustic insulation, thermal insulation and security.

Quality of life is reduced by increased levels of noise!

In today’s world, more and more people are suffering from noise pollution. Solving this problem is one of the biggest challenges for those responsible for our living and working environments.

It is difficult to act solely against the sources of noise, but it is possible to strongly reduce the penetration of noise within our homes. Studies conducted in various countries prove that people are ready to invest to protect themselves against noise.

The ideal composition for noise prevention

The best acoustic performance is achieved with asymmetric double glazing, incorporating at least one leaf of STADIP SILENCE. The choice of composition will depend on the source of noise confronting you. The diagram below shows the sources of noise which are found most annoying.

The solution for impact noise on roofs

The use of glass in overhead applications is becoming more and more common. This creates, however, spaces which are sensitive to impact noise from rain and hail. Trials carried out by a university laboratory in which different types of glazing were submitted to artificial rain. CLIMAPLUS N SILENCE in both single and double glazing produced very positive results. CLIMAPLUS N SILENCE can improve acoustic performance by up to 7 dB.

The Austrian Institute for Building Technology (OIB) guideline Nr.4 “Safety in use and barrier freedom” requires the use of safety glass in areas where danger of falling exists as well as in overhead applications. This safety requirement can be combined with acoustic insulation. CLIMAPLUS SILENCE can also be used in overhead applications in accordance with the OIB guideline Nr.4 and Austrian Standard (ÖNORM) B 3716-2. The basis glass STADIP SILENCE is splinter-free in breakage and when it incorporates an interlayer of > 0,76 mm it complies with these requirements.

Two-sided linear supported overhead glazing is permitted to have a maximum span of 120 cm.

Safety and security in one

CLIMAPLUS SILENCE with STADIP SILENCE fulfils the requirements of guarding against falling in accordance with Austrian Standard (ÖNORM) B 3716-3. The PvB interlayer used therein fulfils the requirements of tear-resistance > 20N/mm² and breakage elasticity of > 250 %.

The Austrian Standard (ÖNORM) B 3716-3 classifies glazing used as guarding against falling into 3 separate glazing groups.

Glazing group 1
This group has the highest requirement whereby the glass must withstand the loading itself.

Glazing group 2 and 3 (except 3.1)
In this group, the primary guarding against falling is provided by a handrail and the glazing acts as a fill element.

In accordance with the OIB guideline 4, point 4.3, glazing with guarding function is made of suitable laminated safety glass.

As an example, the adjacent table shows glass combinations which are proven compositions e.g. as described in TRAV (Edition 1-2003).
