Glass that stores, heats and cools

GLASSX®crystal integrates system components in a performance unit: Transparent thermal insulation – protection from overheating – Energy transformation – thermal storage – daylight.

The intelligent application for opaque wall elements

The newly developed GLASSX®crystal combines the characteristics of PCM (Phase-Change-Materials) with self-regulating solar control in highly insulating, energy saving double-glazing. PCM produces clean solar energy to heat the room to a comfortable level exactly between 26 °C and 28 °C. GLASSX®crystal uniformly radiates the stored energy in a controlled way into the room. At the same time it lightens the room with a good dose of diffuse daylight.

10 times the storage capacity of concrete

The Research Institute ISE Freiburg has proven that a reduction of heating costs by over 50 % can be achieved in winter months in comparison to opaque walls (U-Value 0,3 W/m².K). In Summer months GLASSX®crystal protects from summer overheating – it does not release any energy over 27 °C into the room. Significant amounts of energy are absorbed from overheated rooms by reducing spikes in energy load. GLASSX®crystal is therefore suitable not only for light and medium-sized buildings but also serves to significantly reduce load spikes for climate control and air-conditioning.

Economical and maintenance free

In passive houses the increased cost of investment is almost balanced by the gain of additional rentable space of about 0.4 m²/m run. GLASSX®crystal is user-friendly and requires – by means of its self-regulation – no adjustment from Winter to Summer. Installation is the same as for typical insulating glass. The laws of nature regulate safely your living comfort – in a reliable and clean manner.

Comfort and sensitivity

The temperature on the room side of the element functions like a solar radiator in winter – giving off pleasant uniform warmth. Living comfort is measurably better and more natural daylight brightens work and living spaces.

Aesthetic

Bionic engineered GLASSX®crystal presents a significant new aesthetic. A lively facade reactive to light-atmosphere. Viewed from inside the attraction is the sleek appearance, but this can also be altered by using translucent or coloured glass to suit an individual taste.
