Introduction thermal insulation

Modern insulating glass for windows and facades must not only comply with technical requirements of thermal insulation but also the expectations of occupants with regards to living comfort and daylight.

Thermal insulation

The Austrian Institute for Building Technology (OIB), with reference to heating-energy use, requires that the complete window in residential buildings has a U-value of at least 1.4 W/m².K. Since it is quite typical for a window frame to have a worse U-value than glass, it is necessary for the glass to have a U-value of at least 1.1 W/m².K. This is achieved by the CLIMAPLUS range of glass.

Energy saving

Intelligent products also use the strength of the sun and allow more heat into the room in the winter months than is lost through the glass. Passive and low-energy houses require special glass types such as CLIMATOP MAX to maximise the energy transmittance of the sun (g = 0,6) and keep the warmth (Ug down to 0,5 W/m².K) inside the room. The energy certificate takes these characteristics into account.

GLASSX®crystal – a translucent wall element - can do even more. It stores and releases heat like a radiator. A solution for comfort which, even in Summer, creates a pleasant internal climate – without the need for exterior shading devices.

Sound insulation

Contemporary standard windows typically fulfil the lower basic requirements for acoustic insulation (28 dB). Depending on the location of the building relative to traffic noise, it is quite often necessary or desirable to improve the level of acoustic insulation. With CLIMAPLUS SILENCE or CLIMAPLUS ACOUSTIC it is possible to achieve insulation values up to 52 dB.

Comfort / Safety / Daylight

The attractiveness of an apartment is very often influenced by the criteria of brightness, comfort and quality of living environment. The overall happiness of the occupants is viewed subjectively and determined through comort, safety and lighting conditions. A defining factor for comfort in a room is the median temperature of the air and surfaces of walls and windows. The better these are balanced, the better the comfort. Good thermal insulation properties in the glazing increase the surface temperature and avoids uncomfortable cold zones which often occur with older glass units.

Safety glass for doors and low-level glazing avoids injury and/or danger of falling. All CLIMAPLUS insulating units can be combined with SECURIT or STADIP. Even overhead glazing in conservatories/winter gardens or glass stairs can be constructed safely.

Daylight brings spaciousness and brightness. The research project „green light“, subsidised by House of the Future recommends the net area of glass to be 25 % of the floor area of the room. With higher light transmittance, CLIMAPLUS is an optimum product for this.
