With the new building for the City Hall of London, British Star architect Lord Norman Foster has created a new landmark on the South Bank of the Thames.
The building reacts to climatic conditions with its storey-wise Southward steps. The building skin deals with the thermal loads in changing seasons. The Southward slope protects the interior from direct sunlight as the individual floors shadow their lower counterparts. Producing the 4000 glass-elements for the GLA was a logistical challenge, since the elements were all of individual size and shape. (Photos: Nigel Young/Foster & Partners)
