Hypo Alpe Adria Center

In 1996, Thom Mayne of Morphosis was awarded with the “American Award for Progressive Architecture” for this project in Klagenfurt. The building comprises not only the centre of the developer – the Carinthian Provincial and Mortgage Bank, but also space for renting offices, living quarters, communication and entertainment facilities. This massive building complex is made up of different bodies of buildings. At an angle to each other, one floating on columns and appearing light through the glass-steel facade – the other closed and apparently earthbound. The Bank receives natural light through the glazed roof.
