Museum of Modern Lounge, Salzburg

Eva Schlegel is more than just another name in the art world, mainly because of her continuous analysis of the perception of images. Simplicity, clarity, coherence of form, rigorous concentration on significance on the one hand, softness, comfortable sensitivity, complexity and a poetic multi-layering on the other, distinguish her objects. This characteristic can also be found in her design for the lounge of the museum shop in the Museum of the Modern in Mönchsberg. Clear simple lines and structures dominate the four rear-narrowing lounges. The cool perception of the strict forms in a room of comfortable sensitivity is simultaneously broken down by the warmth of the red sofas. A mysterious puzzle is created by the use of MIRASTAR mirrors, which cloud the reality of the room layers and create an illusion of depth which doesn’t exist. The lounges persuade the visitors to enter and submerse themselves into the world of literature. The experience of diving is enhanced by the porthole-like shapes of the mirrors.
