The greatest challenge of the architectural duo Riepl-Riepl was to continue the significant characteristic of this street, namely to retain elements of the century-old buildings with their cultural vitality, while logically merging them with contemporary architecture.
The proximity to the Carmelite Church meant a sleek facade design was necessary. The consistent flatness and elegance of the VARIO facade (frameless glazing without protrusions for advertising etc) integrates perfectly with the church’s historic appearance.
The differing densities of ceramic coating provide semi-transparence and reflections. The functions of the building are therefore visible in a transformed manner. The office areas appear opaque from outside but allow vision from inside – a characteristic of the dot matrix pattern – giving the facade its impression of whiteness. This appearance is intensified by using a reflective white covering to the insulation behind.
