SS Great Britain

The world’s first ocean steamer the SS Great Britain has been restored and is now exhibited at the Great Western Dockyard. A platform made up of 170 laminated safety glass sheets, glass beams and steel construction has been erected to give the impression that the ship is still at sea. The glass surface is covered in 10 cm of water to simulate the water line. The experience for visitors is enhanced by creating a vast viewing room under the glass platform.
