University for Applied Arts, Vienna

The new roof, in which offices and seminar rooms are located, is formed by a majestic truss which sits on the old walls of the building. It is a slim and elegant steel construction with steel purlins acting as support for the glass and solar control. The result of creative work between architect and engineer is a large and brightly lit „mid-ships“ which carries the complete length of the old building and inner courtyards and provides not only attention but most importantly effective and contemporary use. Offices and studios all sit behind glass walls under the roof pitch, with the seminar rooms as glass boxes amidships.
