Foster + Partners x Eckelt
From Hong Kong to Frankfurt to London – Foster + Partners and Eckelt have been combining technical brilliance with visionary design for four decades.
pioneering spirit in Asia | Our cooperation began 1986 with the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank Headquarters – the building that was designed as the ‘best bank building in the world’ and almost reinvented the office tower. By integrating a feng shui geomancer and radical technical solutions, a milestone in modern architecture was created here.
ecology meets innovation in Frankfurt | With the Commerzbank Tower, we realised Europe’s first ecological skyscraper in 1997. With 53 storeys, it not only offers natural lighting and individual ventilation through windows, but also set new height standards at the time with a height of 259 metres.
lightweight construction wonder | The Millennium Bridge, London’s first new pedestrian bridge for over a hundred years, impresses with its extremely flat steel structure spanning 320 metres. After the legendary ‘wobble’ phenomenon at its opening, it was stabilised with dampers – and is now regarded as a technical masterpiece.
the icon in the city sky | In 2004 the 30 St Mary Axe (‘The Gherkin’) set standards as London’s first ecological skyscraper. The diamond-shaped diagrid façade maximises daylight and natural ventilation – a statement for sustainable building and a symbol of our collective innovative strength.
